The history of the brewery of pécs

The predecessor in title of the Brewery of Pécs was founded at the foot of Mecsek Hills in 1848 by Lipót Hirschfeld. As a result of its dynamic development, soon it became one of the largest breweries of the region. In 1917 the Pannónia Breweries Inc. was established, which succeeded in surviving the economic crises of the 1920’s and 1930’s, and the difficult war-torn years.

After the nationalisation of 1948 many large investment and development projects were put in place. In 1992 the state-owned company transformed into an incorporated company. During the privatisation of 1993 the factory was bought by the Ottakringer Group. Quality changes took shape in 1994-1995 concerning the image, the quality and marketing of products, together with changing the name to ’Brewery of Pécs’ better resembling the philosophy of the company, according to which it does not produce, but brews all its beverages on its own.
